Magic Chief Appliances
John Ringen, who was an immigrant to the US, started a tin shop in St. Louis Missouri in the 1850s. His business did very well and he took on a partner in 1870 by the name of George Kahle. Kahle had immigrated to the US in 1867. Their business sold cooking stoves and washing machines. George Kahle then persuaded his brothers in laws, Louis and Charles Stockstrom to open a shop in order to make stoves in 1881. The four owners then divided into two corporations, the Quick Meal Stove Company and the Ringen Stove Company.
While Quick Meal produced the stoves, Ringen Stove handled all of the output of Quick Meal's production. By the early 1890s, the tremendous expansion of these two companies resulted in the merger with a number of other stove companies that were located in Cleveland, Chicago, and St. Louis and they formed the American Stove Company (ASC) in 1901. In 1914, American Stove developed the first device that controlled the temperature in an oven and introduced the brand name of Magic Chef in 1929. The name Magic Chef ultimately became so popular worldwide that in 1951 ASC renamed itself to Magic Chef. The company was well known for its gas stoves.
